Event Description:

Being resilient is more and more essential in our complex world. Living an Appreciatively Resilient Life offers deep reflection into how you can create a sustaining practice of resilience. In this workshop you will delve into two powerful resilience processes and gain concrete ideas on how to foster your own resilience practice in the every day of work and life.

The first process is the appreciative resilience practice that uses appreciative inquiry to examine how you can foster hope and a hopeful view as a foundation of resilience; utilize your strengths in times of challenge and times of despair; and undertake the will and power to forgive.

The second process is the ALIVEpractice which is a powerful tool to use in challenging times. ALIVE stands for Appreciate, Love, Inquire, Venture, and Evolve. This tool uses appreciative generative questions to examine resilience.

Both of these appreciative resilience processes are built from the practice of appreciative inquiry and are based upon the appreciative resilience work and writing of Joan McArthur-Blair and Jeanie Cockell. People often think of resilience as a response to weathering challenges but in appreciative resilience work the aim is to create a sustaining daily practice of resilience.

The aims of this workshop are for you to:

• explore the rungs of appreciative inquiry (ordinary, extraordinary, tragic)
• examine the processes and practices of appreciative inquiry
• engage with the Appreciative Resilience process
• explore how the ALIVE process can be used in challenging times
• foster hope and a hopeful view as a practice of resilience
• uplift strengths in times of challenge and despair to generate a more resilient self
• nurture forgiveness within a resilience practice
• advance skills in creating generative resilient questions
• reflect on systemic issues and resilience
